Cherry Dessert

This is an old favorite that is SO easy and SO good!  Let your kids help you with this recipe--my kids feel really cool, thinking that they can make an entire recipe all by themselves!

Ingredients:

2 cans cherry pie filling (or filling of your choice)
1 box of yellow cake mix
1 1/2 sticks of butter, melted
1 c. chopped walnuts (or nut of your choice)

Oven temperature: 350 degrees
Baking time: 45 minutes

Pour the cans of pie filling into the bottom of a 9x13" pan.  Then sprinkle the dry cake mix over the top of the cherry filling.

Next, sprinkle the walnuts on top of the dry cake mix.

Melt the butter...

and pour it on top of the walnuts.

Now, just toss it into the oven and allow it to bake for approximately 45 minutes.  It's done when the top is a nice golden brown and the filing is bubbling.

Allow it to cool a bit, then serve it up.  It's that easy!

  1. YUM!! Too bad I'm the only one in my family that likes cherries! I guess I'd have to eat the whole pan myself!

    1. You can try other fillings...but it may end up being too sweet. The cherries are somewhat tart, so they go nicely with the sweet topping.

  3. Im trying this but modified a little bit. fresh cherries, macerated in sugar and a bit of lemon juice and topped with a chocolate cake mix instead of yellow. :) Hopefully it tastes as good as yours looks.
